as always, i started off with a quick sketch in my 5.5" X 8.5" skech pad [i love this size- perfect for carrying around anywhere- i have at least 50 of these filled from as far back as high school],
i laid on a bit of ink to "formalize" the lines.
then, as is becoming habit lately, i traced it onto bristol board [to extend my canvas, and get it on a more durable surface] with my ever-useful light table.... laid some gouache on + colored pencil for some of the tighter areas [his shirt text, pants tie, etc.].
then scanned it, bumped the saturation, and brought out the outlines again in photoshop, and that's whatcha get!

Great illo! Reminds me of when I was a kid and made a BIG MESS with watermelon seeds!

i especially like the exposed belly.
Oh this is fun-- and it has a nice edge to it! Like how the hard/rough lines contrast with the lighter palette. Great stuff.
